Program Overview
Students learn skills such as gas and electric welding on steel, aluminum, and stainless steel, performing advanced techniques in Shielded Metal Arc (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc (GMAW/MIG), and Gas Tungsten Arc (GTAW/TIG) welding. This includes mastering oxyfuel and plasma arc cutting, carbon arc gouging, and the precise manipulation of fire and electricity to create, dismantle, and build a wide range of metal products for the construction and manufacturing industries.
Additional training includes Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), basic pipe welding, and metal layout and fabrication through the use of specialized industrial machinery and hand tools. This program stresses workplace safety, the interpretation of blueprints and welding symbols, and the related metallurgy, applied mathematics, and physics involved in the development of skills in performing technical structural welding in the practice of a professional welder.
Industry Certifications
- Students prepare for the Certified Welder examination which is governed by the American Welding Society (AWS), specifically targeting the AWS D1.1 Structural Welding standards.
